Clothing
Casual dress is standard for Belize so keep clothing to a minimum. Some bathing suits and lightweight sports wear is all you'll need. You might like something with long sleeves and a pair of long pants for the evenings which can get a little cool if the trade winds are blowing during the winter months. We are mostly barefoot on board but when going ashore a pair of flip flops are a good idea for the beach and a pair of good hiking sandals if you want to do more exploring. For dinners ashore the dress code is casually elegant which means simple but neat.
Put a spare set of clothes for the next day in your carry-on bag just in case your baggage should go astray in the airport. This doesn't happen any more often in Belize than anywhere else, but it does present an inconvenience. Put some extra toiletries in a small ziplock baggie, and pack some of your gear in your partner's bag and vice versa in case one bag arrives but not the other. There are plenty of boutiques where you can purchase tropical clothing if this should occur.
Sunscreen & Medications
Please don't bring sunscreen with bronzers or self tanners as they stain the decks BADLY! Sunscreen is generally more expensive here than at home, and is considered a tourist item. Not many locals use it, so bring plenty with you and the same goes for mosquito spray. Mosquitos are attracted to dark clothing. A good broad brimmed hat, visor and sunglasses also help to protect you from the intense tropical sunshine. Remember you also have the wind and glare off the water when you're on a sailboat so protection is a must and some after sun soothing cream.
We have foul weather gear on board. If you want to stow your bags in the forward hatch instead of tripping over them while we're underway they must fit into a compartment with an opening dimension of 26" x 15". The only place to have a prescription filled is in Belize City before you board the boat so make sure you have what you need before you leave home.
Electronic Devices & Cash
Don't forget your camera! We have a laptop on board if you want to download to a memory stick etc. or share photos. We always like to hear new music so if you have an MP3 or IPOD feel free to bring it along. Make sure to leave plenty of space in your bag in case you find something you can't resist along the way. If you're bringing cash make sure you have small bills as $100 bills are difficult to exchange and are suspect to counterfeit. |
